The Queensland Governments summit on managing population growth wraps up in Brisbane today.
Yesterday, Premier Anna Bligh suggested developing Townsville in the states north as a second capital city for Queensland.
She also flagged a speed-up of development approvals and urged banks to lend more to unit developers.
The growth conference was told yesterday it is likely to become harder for low-income earners to afford housing as the population increases.
Brisbane Housing Company spokesman David Cant says creating compact high-density apartments in urban areas could reduce the problem.
